15 of our Hotels we own or manage are now active members of the Global Soap Project. Our properties collect all unused soap and donate it to the Global Soap Project where it is purified, packaged and shipped to twenty-nine countries worldwide.
The Global Soap Project:
With 4.6-million hotel/motel rooms in the United States, an estimated 2.6-million soap bars are discarded every day. By participating in our program, hoteliers are diverting tons of waste from the landfill and bolstering environmental sustainability programs. Hotel managers, housekeepers and guests become more environmentally conscious and more sensitive to the needs of vulnerable populations.
At this time, we cannot accept discarded soap from individual travelers and families. Our current process requires large quantities of identical bars to ensure the perfumes, oils and other ingredients combine to create a high-quality product.
Imagine life without soap! It is critical to our health and humanity, a vital component of our ability to keep our families safe. Here at the Global Soap Project, we celebrate everything about it!
Here are some of the facts and figures that keep us motivated:
10 Billion pounds of soap are produced each year.
Murphy’s Oil Soap is used to clean elephants.
NGO's pick up the soap for shipment to their partners serving vulnerable populations. A box holds 120 4oz. bars and weighs 30 pounds. One pallet is 50 boxes totalling 6000 bars. Bars are cut, visually inspected and packaged into boxes for shipment. Soap gets shipped to different countries and continents all over the world.
